My boyfriend just told me that he burned his hand using clorox on a rag? I can’t believe he did that but I’m worried about him. What could happen to him?

I am not sure, wash your body part you got it on
Have you ever gotten bleach on your skin and when you went to wash it off, your skin felt slippery? Well, that’s the oils in your skin breaking down. Your boyfriend may well have gotten a chemical burn from washing things with a rag soaked in bleach. No offense to him, but if he would have read the label first, he might have known to use rubber gloves. Straight bleach is almost never necessary for cleaning anyway. Adding a capfull of bleach to a gallon of water will sanitze, anything more is excess. And ALWAYS add bleach to a large quantity of water. NEVER add water to a container of bleach, or any other cleaning product. It may react in an unexpected way, like splashing up in your face. If it burned your boyfriend’s hand, think of what it would do to your eyes!
Again, please read the directions of any product you use!
According to the Clorox Bleach Material Safety Data Sheet, “DANGER: CORROSIVE. May cause severe irritation or damage to eyes and skin. Vapor or mist may irritate. Harmful if swallowed. Some clinical reports suggest a low potential for sensitization upon exaggerated exposure to sodium hypochlorite if skin damage (e.g., irritation) occurs during
exposure. Under normal consumer use conditions the likelihood of any adverse health effects are low.
Medical conditions that may be aggravated by exposure to high concentrations of vapor or mist: heart conditions or chronic respiratory problems such as
asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis or obstructive lung disease.
Skin Contact: Wash skin with water for 15-20 minutes. If irritation develops, call a physician.”
He could develop a severe irritation and should see a doctor.
Definetely have him rinse his hand. It is just like a burn with fire. I would have him go to the ER if he starts to get blisters from the bleach. The main danger is infection.
Well now that everyone else has scolded you here is the thing. A bleach burn is just like any other burn. If it’s not to bad or ugly use some burn cream or ointment on it and loosely wrap it. If it looks ugly if the skin is blistered or peeling make him go to the doctor. I have worked around bleach in a laundry for 25 years and have seen some bad bleach burns but they heal. The thing is to learn NOT to do this again. Hope this eases your worry some. And I hope he’s better soon.
There are some nasty chemicals out there, you can get burned using products like that. If it’s that bad he should have it looked at.
I buy some great products off a wholesale heatlh/wellness site. I love the products. They are completely safe and nontoxic. I had my 4yr old clean up blue ink she got on the carpet with a little cleaning solution. Came right out and l won’t trust any other cleaners now. Especially since they’re safe for my kids.
Click my avatar and email me, again…it’s a WHOLESALE buying site, you don’t have to buy in bulk either.
Take Care!!!
He’ll likely get a skin irritation or a small rash. Clorox is not one of the most irritating cleaning products on the market. Have him rinse it very well and he’ll be fine.
