You need to have 0 degrees of freedom. When you get a negative number what that means for non reactive problems is that you have to many equations. You might think that might not be such a problem however you might have equations that are not technically independent as I went over or since you have more then the needed equations you might carry a error or contradiction in one of them that will skew your results.
So in order to solve for an equation, is it okay to have a negative degree of freedom or should we always have a degree of freedom that equals 0?
