Apparently petroleum engineering has opened up a lot lately, and the industry is running low of workers. I love physics and chemistry, but people keep telling me not to go into petroleum engineering because they have to travel a lot and petroleum will be replaced by another source of energy soon. What do you think? Should I still do it?

Apparently, you have listed some pros and cons of being in the petroleum engineering field. Now, all you have to do is weigh the pros and the cons.
It is really up to you to decide on what you want to do.
It won’t be replaced soon, don’t worry.
But even if it was replaced by next year by some unknown fuel source, petroleum is still used in giant quantities to make rubber, plastics, detergents, fertilizer and endless other chemicals.
